Fishers Reserve Waterhole

This artwork is a vivid tribute to the Petersham Waterhole, once found in teh place of FIshers Reserve Road. It reflects the native fauna which would have been found around billabongs, waterholes and waterways across traditional Aboriginal lands of the Sydney Basin.

Zachary Bennett-Brook's bright and vibrant water patterns flow across the wall, reflecting the once watery environment. Intertwined with the detailed brushwork is Alex Beibbington's water moths and dragonfly revealing the beauty of the local insect inhabitants and the story of a rich cultural past.

In the artwork, to the left you see the Mistletoe Moth (Comocrus behri), a day flying moth, feeding on native mistletoe found throughout mainland Australia. Top right, the White Stemmed Acacia Moth (Chelepteryx chaplepteryx) is depicted, one of the largest moths found throughout Sydney, feeding on native Acacia. Bottom right, is the Adams Emerald Dragonfly (Archaeophya adamsi), found in select areas of eastern Australia, it is one of Australia's rarest dragonflies with only a few specimens ever collected.
